Well everybody, this is it -- the last day of the Summer Reading Club!

In total, there were 229 kids who registered for the club, and I will miss each and everyone of you!

Thank you to everyone who made this summer such a success. I had such a wonderful experience, and I hope you all enjoy the rest of your summers!

This is Emily, signing out!

Week 6

Can you believe that Week 6 is already here?! It's our last week of the Summer Reading Club!

We kicked it off today at the Junior and Senior Clubs by becoming time travellers! The Juniors went back to when pirates sailed the sea, and read a wonderful adventure about a little boy and Bigbeard the pirate. After our story we made dazzling crowns and became kings, queens, and princesses! During our Senior Reading Club we read a book called "Fartiste" about a hilarious French performer who actually lived in the 1800s, and then made time capsules to open in a few years. That way we can remember what is was like to be a kid, even when we're old and grey!

Tomorrow from 1:00-4:00 pm and Thursday from 10:00 am -12:00 pm you'll have your last chance to report on books, and then our party is Thursday afternoon! I wonder who will be the winning team... Who's read the most books? That will be revealed at our party!

Our Wrap-Up Party will run from 1:00-3:00 pm on Thursday. We'll be enjoying food, prizes, games, and a few other surprises! If you have a chance between now and then, please let me know if you are planning to attend. You can pop by the library, or give us a call at 905-985-7686. You can also email me at emily@scugoglibrary.ca. We're going to have so much fun!

And finally, our movie on Friday is called "Rio", and will begin at 2:00 pm. This is a great family film, and our last kids movie of the summer, so don't miss out!

We've had an amazing summer, and I can't wait to see you all at the party on Thursday.

Happy Reading, and I'll see you then!

Week 5 Was Out of This World!

When I say that Week 5 was "out of this world", I mean it quite literally -- this week was all about exploring space!

The Senior Reading Club enjoyed a humourous book called "Star Jumper" about a boy who builds a rocketship to space to escape his pesky younger brother. We made an array of zany alien crafts, and had fun creating back-stories about their home planets from all over the galaxy! The Junior Reading Club also read some super books about stars and space, like "Harry and Horsie" by Katie Van Camp. We sang songs about things that fall from the sky, and made rocketships out of toilet paper rolls and aluminum foil! We had so much fun!

Thursday at Fun and Games was extra special, because it was Tacky Tourist Day! I was impressed at how goofy everyone's outfits were -- we sure looked pretty silly! To go with our theme, we played a game called "I'm Going on a Trip" and sang "Going on a Lion Hunt". We played lots more active games, and even made tropical bird crafts to join us on our touristy travels. What a great day! Thanks to everyone for dressing up like Tacky Tourists!

This afternoon (Friday the 2nd), we will be watching the movie "ParaNorman"! Please keep in mind that this movie has been rated PG for frightening scenes so it is an animated film targeted towards older children. The movie will begin at 2 o'clock, and I can't wait because it looks like an amazing film!

Next Week

Next week is the last week of the Summer Reading Club, and we have lots of exciting things planned! Monday the library will be closed, but on Tuesday we'll start our theme of "Let's Explore History"! We're going to be time travellers and learn about all sorts of cool things like knights and princesses!

We will be running all of our regular Summer Reading Club programs next week, except for Thursday, August 8th. From 1:00-3:00 pm on that day will be having our Wrap-Up Party! Wahoo! There will food, games, prizes, and fun for everyone! We definitely have to celebrate the wonderful summer we've had. If you're at the library over the next few days, be sure to sign up so we have a rough idea of how many people will be attending the party.

As for our movie next week, we will be showing "Rio" on Friday, August 9th. The film is rated G.
As you can see, there are lots of great things in store!

And now for an update on team points!

The Outdoor Adventurers - 454 books
The Astronauts - 381 books
The Time Travellers - 322 books
The World Explorers - 280 books

Wow! This is absolutely amazing! It looks like everyone's been trying to get lots of points in before the end of our program. I'm amazed at how much you've read this week! Keep it up!

Happy Reading, and I will see you all soon!
